Hi, I’m Sarah.

I believe in the power of intentional travel to transform a life.

I’ve experienced this first-hand where I’ve simultaneously developed self-reliance and learned how to rely on others (hello Jeep stuck in a sand pit). I’ve faced situations that I’ve avoided for years, only to learn that I am capable of getting through it when it happened despite my best efforts (hello cactus ball in my dog’s nose). And the skills I’ve learned on the road are equally as valuable upon returning home. Talking to strangers. Navigating public transit. Getting comfortable with looking silly while learning new skills (still working on that last one, tbh).

Personal growth through travel makes life better, at home and on the road.

Travel Fiend and Road Warrior

I’ve solo road tripped across the US, done paddle board yoga in Mexico, wandered the streets of Paris and London, and spent New Years Day on the Great Wall of China.

I love the magic of stepping foot in a new place and connecting with a new community. The food, the people, the art. Coffee from a local roaster in the morning and regional microbrews in the evening. These are all things that I seek out as I explore a new city. My favorite land formations are badlands (visit the Painted Desert the day after a heavy rain has washed the dust away and tell me you disagree) and I love a good truck stop or small town main street to break up a long drive.

My body feels more at peace when it’s in motion, whether that’s cruising a back road with the windows down or dancing out my feelings at any given moment. Slow, intentional travel is my favorite.

Transformed Through Solo Travel

I had my very first taste of solo travel back in 2007 when I visited my mom while she was on an extended work trip in England.

I flew alone to London and hopped into an iconic black cab upon arrival. After just a few moments in the car, I excitedly told him that I had never been to London before, in fact this was my first time visiting Europe and I had no idea where anything was in the city. The driver very kindly suggested to me not to mention that so boldly to other drivers while cabbing around town (advice that I’m now passing along to you) and then proceeded to point out landmarks on our way to the hotel. While my mom was working, I took the train or bus on day trips around the English countryside, exploring  Glastonbury and Yeovil and Bath.

Since then, I’ve traveled abroad, camped alone all across the country, and taken multi-month road trips by myself. Solo travel hasn’t always been easy, and it honestly hasn’t always been fun, but it has always been worth it.  For all of the hard moments, I’ve had moments of pure joy and with every tear I’ve come out a stronger woman. I’m never the same person at the end of a trip and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

That transformation is my wish for you. To trust yourself. Rely on yourself. Know yourself.  Love yourself.
